Edo Period Copper Tsuba – Eagle & Pine Tree (Yanagawa Naomitsu)

An authentic signed copper Maru-gata (circular) Tsuba from the Edo period, showcasing the work of the Yanagawa school.

The piece features a Sukashi (openwork) design sculpted in Maru-bori (high relief in the round), depicting an eagle perched on a Pine Tree, watching small birds below. The motif is beautifully enhanced with fine gold inlay (zōgan) details on the eagle’s eyes, talons, and the small birds. The signature on the seppa-dai reads Yanagawa Naomitsu (柳川直光), a renowned lineage of artisans skilled in animal and nature motifs.
