Edo Period Iron Soten Tsuba

An authentic iron Maru-gata (circular) Tsuba from the Edo period, showcasing the distinctive style of the Hikone-Soten school.

The piece features a detailed Ji-sukashi (openwork) design sculpted in Maru-bori (high relief), depicting the classical theme of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove (Chikurin no Shichiken). The scholars and lush bamboo foliage are enhanced with Nunome-zogan gold inlay details, which are also applied along the Mimi (rim). The reverse complements the scene with continuous bamboo carvings and openwork.
